    Abstract [en]

    Summary

Aim: The aim of this study has been to examine how teachers in physical education look at teaching about nutrition in relation to health. The following questions were formulated:

    • How do teachers perceive the students´ knowledge of and relationship to food?
    • In what ways are nutrition applied in education?
    • What do techers want to achieve with their nutritioneducation?

Method: The study has followed a qualitative character with interview as method. Four teachers who are active in various high schools and secondary schools in Stockholm have for 30-40 minutes verbally responded to a predetermined questionnaire, where they have been given the possibility to individually express whether they will go into the question of how diet aspect is reflected in their teaching. As a theoretical starting point, the study has been based on a currucilum pattern.

Results: Based on the analys the results shows a shattered approach to the students' knowledge of food. The majority feel that they are unaware to how the students' relationship to food looks like. Despite this, a kind of an unconscious knowledge is shown when the teachers chose to incorporate into their teaching the great breadth of what all that diet can mean. A common focus is on training theory, rather than nutrition. How this is applied differs between the teachers where it is either in theoretical or practical context or both. What they ultimately want to achieve is also a unified approach where nutrition should be something simple for the students and they need to realize that diet is a necessary sustenance of good health.

Conclusions: My conclusion is that physical education goes more from being a practical subject to a knowledge topic. However, it feels that the new curriculum could be more specific in how the moment "Health" should be applied because its meaning is so multifaceted. Teaching about nutrition has today still a small role in the education and based on theese results it is becase time and the little scope for interpretation diet is attributed.

Only one of the teachers performs an ongoing collaboration with other subjects who relates to education about nutrition. This might be something all schools in the country should apply so that the students could get the broad knowledge.
