Abstract [sv]

Datan vi samlade in bearbetades därefter i statistikprogrammet SPSS, via oberoende t-test och One-Way ANOVA.

Resultat

Slutsats

Abstract [en]

Aim

The aim of the study was to investigate the differences in self-perception between female team athletes and female individual athletes. Furthermore, we wanted to see if there were any differences in self-perception between the female students in grade 1, 2 and 3 of high school.

The questions of our study are as follows: - "Is there any difference in self-perception in young female team athletes and young female individual athletes?"- "Is there any difference in self-perception between each grade?"

Method

We have conducted a cross-sectional study, using questionnaires as a method. The questionnaires were answered by female students (n=93) from a secondary school with scattered sports profiles located in Stockholm. The data we collected was then processed in the statistical software SPSS, via Independent T-test and One-Way ANOVA.

Results

Our results showed significant differences in two out of six different categories within the concept of self-perception. "Perceived fitness and importance" and "sport competence and importance" showed a significant value [t (91) = 3.56, p < 0.001] and [t (91) = -3.62, p < 0.001] respectively in difference between the two study groups, where the team athletes had a more positive self-perception. "Body attractiveness and importance", "perceived strength and importance", "physical self-worth and importance" and "global self-esteem" were the other groups studied. However, no significant differences were seen among these categories.

Conclusions

Female individuals in team sports seem to have a more positive self-perception compared to female individual athletes. This could be seen through significant differences in two out of six categories. Although the mean within the other categories was not statistically significant, we were still able to see differences in average between the two groups, where we saw a tendency towards higher averages in the team athletes.
