Can physical education contribute to a long active life? : A quantitative study on how the experience of the subject of sports and health can lead to an active life (English)
Abstract [en]

Purpose

The purpose of the study is to find out whether a positive experience of school sports has been a contributing factor to increased physical activity and whether it affects the degree of sedentary behavior. The study also examines whether there are differences between the experience of contributing factors to physical activity.

Method

This study is based on a quantitative approach in the form of a questionnaire with 17 questions. Where the questions concern the experience of contributing factors to physical activity, including the school subject of sports and health, as well as current physical activity and being sedentary. The form was completed by 160 people who had completed their upper secondary education and were between 20–34 years old. The tests that have been used are Spearman's rank correlation and repeated measures ANOVA.

Results

In the results, we can see a correlation between positive experience of the subject of sport and health and reduced sedentary time and increased physical activity after completing secondary education. We can also see that the experience of other factors influencing physical activity differs between individuals.

Conclusion

The likelihood that you will be more physically active and less sedentary after completing secondary education is greater if you have a positive experience of the subject of sports and health. However, we cannot see whether the increase in physical activity and reduced sedentary time comes before or after a positive experience of the subject of sport and health.

Abstract [sv]

Syfte
