Velocity in TeamGym Vaulting : How velocity is utilized in relation to gender and difficulty score (English)
Abstract [sv]

Syfte

Abstract [en]

Aim

The aim of the study was to investigate the speed of Swedish elite team gymnasts at 25m and whether there were any differences between gender and its correlation to performance.

Method

30 gymnasts participated in the study, 15 men and 15 women, two tests were conducted. Test 1 maximum sprint of 25m to calculate speed, test 2 trampet jumps to foam pit with landing bed to calculate speed and determine difficulty score (D-score) and deduction for each participant. The sum of the D-score of the two most difficult vaults minus deductions is considered in this study as performance.

Results

The study showed a significant difference between men and women's speed of 25m without a pedal (p=0.001). The study shows that there is a significant correlation between speed 25m without a trampet and performance but that it can only explain 40% of the variance in the result.

Conclusion

Gymnasts' sprinting ability has an impact on performance, but more research is needed to explain which qualities contribute to performance.
